At a young age, I realized that accounting was the cornerstone of measuring all aspects of a business. That epiphany, and the sweat and suffering of a job in a plywood mill to pay for my education, propelled me through a B.S. in Accounting at the University of Portland. From that humble start, I earned my CPA and have since invested over 24 years in the business community.

Today, it’s my client’s trust that draws me back to the office day after day. In a subtle but important way, I provide a sense of security, peace of mind, reassurance and reliability, regardless of their unique needs and goals.

Case in point: One of the most motivating points in my career came when a philanthropic business client called me to his death bed, and entrusted me to care for his legacy’s finances. There is no greater honor than that.

What free time I have goes to my family. With twins in college, and a younger son racing through high school, life is full. (But when there is a quiet moment, I like to spend it following my favorite soccer club, Manchester City FC.)

After working in my family business as a bookkeeper, I realized accounting was my career of choice. As a senior in high school, I worked at my first CPA office. This is where I met Gloria Traub, still my mentor to this day. Gloria put me under her wing and taught me everything I needed to know in the bookkeeping world.

I followed Gloria when she started her own CPA practice. She allowed me the freedom to raise my three children and maintain my career at the same time. Thirty one years later, my husband, Robert Williamson, purchased Gloria’s practice and opened a new office in Clackamas. I am fortunate to be part of Williamson & Associates with Gloria still by my side. We make a great team and now share the privilege with others.

Each day I love going to work, knowing I’m here for our clients. As the office manager, I continue to assist our clients with bookkeeping, payroll and tax returns. It’s also a joy seeing the wonderful and skilled staff here at Williamson & Associates contributing to the success of our clients.

Outside of work, I live for my family and friends. Being able to spend quality time at a family gathering, a simple dinner out, watching soccer/basketball or traveling are all keys to my happiness. To top it off, we added “Annie” (Miniature Australian Shepherd) to our family.

After more than three decades in the accounting industry, I still enjoy the work, and get great satisfaction from contributing to a business’s day-to-day operations, and to the business owner’s financial reporting requirements.

I started working for a major CPA firm while still earning my degree in the late 70’s. There, most of my clients were in the service industry. After a few years, and a move into the private industry, I applied my accounting background to manage an anesthesiology office. I enjoyed working with the physicians to improve patient service and the business’s accuracy and efficiency.

After moving to the Portland area, I found my way to Williamson & Associates. Here, I enjoy meeting my clients’ needs on their terms: some need monthly bookkeeping, others are satisfied with an annual check-in; some require my presence in person, while others are content with me working off-site.

Outside of work, my husband and I enjoy playing and watching tennis, bike riding, time outdoors, traveling to warm climates anytime of the year, and spending time with friends and family, especially my grandchildren.

I love to help businesses to grow and create jobs. To me, accounting is more than just “crunching numbers,” it’s about providing reliable data to make good business decisions. I provide my clients with security and peace of mind, which allows them to focus on running their businesses.

The best part of this job: earning my clients’ trust.

My interest in accounting started in college where I saw that successful business rests on solid accounting. Today, I provide tax and accounting services as well as outside controller services. I help clients make all kinds of business decisions ranging from equipment purchases to capital leases, from cash management to tax planning strategies.

Outside of the office I enjoy various car related hobbies (particularly BMWs), golf, spending time with family, and trying to perfect my home brewing skills.

I became an accountant to make a meaningful contribution to businesses, to work with numbers, and to help people to maximize their wealth.

As a CPA, I want my clients to feel like they have a trusted advisor for the financial and accounting aspect of their lives, for the tough decisions and the comparatively easy ones. I want to help them achieve success –whatever that means to them- while remaining compliant with their necessary filings. My clients seek reassurance and peace of mind. That’s what I provide.

I enjoy building relationships with my clients, learning about their varied industries, and earning their trust. How do I know they trust me? They consistently ask for my service and confidently accept the results and answers I provide. I don’t just give them paper with a jumble of numbers, I give them a complete understanding of the big picture and how it affects them.

Outside of the office, I enjoy spending time with my wife and young son. Until he’s old enough to share my lifelong passion for the outdoors, I’m content to garden and cook on the grill.

What attracts me to accounting? Primarily, I like serving the diverse needs of a great variety of people. Working with numbers is a nice perk.

Finances can be an intimidating mystery. I like showing my clients how they can reduce their taxes or get a better understanding on how their business is doing.

Case in point: when I started work with one client, their books weren’t in great shape, and their bank accounts hadn’t been reconciled for over two years. I helped them to the point that a bookkeeper could manage the daily activity, and then returned every quarter to do payroll reporting. After a couple of years, the owners wanted to sell, so I put together financial statements for the buyer. Through it all, my client could focus on their strengths, confident in my work. I took their long-term patronage as a sign of their satisfaction.

Outside of work, I enjoy reading historical fiction and biographies; I’m working my way through an alphabetical list of interesting people. Right now, I’m on Henry Ford. When I’m spending time with my kids –they’re nine and seven- we enjoy going to the park, playing outdoors, and exploring the incredible variety of scenery in Oregon.

I got hooked on accounting in my first college class on the topic.

There’s something about solving the puzzles hidden in each tax return that really appeals to me. It doesn’t have to be a stressful experience, even when there’s an amendment to make, or an IRS notice to answer.

I am motivated to excel, and to provide security, peace of mind, and reassurance to every client I work with. That’s why I enjoy working at Williamson & Associates; they share these priorities, among other personal and professional beliefs.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family and friends: playing soccer and golf, attending professional and collegiate sporting events, and exploring NW Oregon’s outdoors. In the future, I’m looking forward to traveling to new places.

I declared my desire to become an accountant on my third birthday so my favorite aunt would no longer have to work on my birthday because “I would help her be done before that last tax filing deadline of the year and she could spend the day celebrating with me instead”. Here I am some 40 years later having fulfilled my desire to be an accountant having followed in the family footsteps, only now I am working alongside my aunt on that last deadline of the year; at least I am still spending with my favorite aunt! After taking an accounting class in high school my love of accounting was solidified and I truly knew this is what I wanted to do. Working in the restaurant industry after high school I always gravitated towards the operational side increasing my knowledge of how important good bookkeeping is to the success of any business. I began working with my aunt part time, while raising my four children, and learning “the ropes” from Gloria and her assistant Debbie. I started to take on bookkeeping jobs for her small business clients which I have continued as we merged with Williamson & Associates. I look forward to continuing to increase my knowledge with the firm.I truly enjoy the personal relationships I have made with our clients while assisting them throughout the years. Each day I have the continuity of the basic accounting process but the unique challenge that each client poses within their business. From the simple to the complex each individual provides a puzzle for me to solve and a greater knowledge of the foundation that keeps those businesses successful.Away from work I enjoy spending time with my husband and our four children. You might find me in my garden or hiking the great northwest.

I became interested in accounting at a very early age. I love the challenge inherent in every set of books and am always resolute in my pursuit of accuracy. I learned the basics of my profession from my uncle, also a CPA, back in the days when we prepared everything by hand! The advent of the personal computer has greatly increased speed, accuracy, and volume in the industry, and I have always been an early adopter of new technologies

Over the years I have always considered my clients to be “mine” to take care of and nurture. My practice, now merged with Williamson & Associates, grew primarily through word of mouth recommendations from existing clients. Debbie Williamson, Rob’s wife, has been my faithful friend and executive assistant throughout my solo career.

I consider myself a lucky woman to have had such a satisfying work experience and look forward to new challenges in the future.

  • Began my public accounting career in 1973, spending a total of 11 years in the San Francisco and Portland offices of what is now Deloitte
  • Certified Public Accountant since 1976. I passed all parts of the exam on the first try, even though I don’t have an accounting degree.
  • I was a corporate controller and chief financial officer for companies in the wine and cellular telephone industries between 1982 and 1993.
  • From 1993 through 2014, I was a shareholder of Cornutt, Stearns & Archibald PC, CPAs.

  • American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)
  • Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA)

  • BA, cum laude, in Economics, Claremont McKenna College, Claremont, California
  • MBA in Finance, University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois

I began my career in public accounting with no thought of really making it a career – it was a stepping stone to the world of Wall Street. I was the son of a CPA and the grandson of an accountant and a banker and I thought I had no real interest in those professions. The man who would become my father-in-law showed me the possibilities of being in the accounting profession, first as an auditor with an international accounting firm, then as a financial executive in three different private businesses (one of the largest wine producers in the country, an agricultural investment company, and a large cellular telephone company). In 1993 I moved back into public accounting as a shareholder with Cornutt, Stearns and Archibald PC, primarily doing tax work with a broad range of businesses and individuals. I remained there until we joined with Williamson & Associates in 2014.

I love to help my clients make their lives easier and more enjoyable at every stage of life by helping them with their tax and other financial issues. Sure, preparing tax returns can be fun at times but the real joy comes from meeting and getting to know my clients as both an advisor and friend.

My free time is spent with my wife (a retired teacher) and with our son and grandson, who live with us. We travel to New Hampshire on a regular basis to see our daughter and her family. We love our place at Cannon Beach, no matter whether the weather is sunny or stormy. We are avid wine tasters and collectors and spend lots of time with our golden retriever.
