What attracts me to accounting? Primarily, I like serving the diverse needs of a great variety of people. Working with numbers is a nice perk.

Finances can be an intimidating mystery. I like showing my clients how they can reduce their taxes or get a better understanding on how their business is doing.

Case in point: when I started work with one client, their books weren’t in great shape, and their bank accounts hadn’t been reconciled for over two years. I helped them to the point that a bookkeeper could manage the daily activity, and then returned every quarter to do payroll reporting. After a couple of years, the owners wanted to sell, so I put together financial statements for the buyer. Through it all, my client could focus on their strengths, confident in my work. I took their long-term patronage as a sign of their satisfaction.

Outside of work, I enjoy reading historical fiction and biographies; I’m working my way through an alphabetical list of interesting people. Right now, I’m on Henry Ford. When I’m spending time with my kids –they’re nine and seven- we enjoy going to the park, playing outdoors, and exploring the incredible variety of scenery in Oregon.
